REST

Wholesome rest includes physical, mental & spiritual rest. Physical rest is when we allow our body relax or shut-down for sleep, while mental rest clears our mind of worries, anxiety and guilt. Spiritual rest on the other hand is when we spend time with the Creator on the Sabbath day.

Rest is so crucial that, from the inception of creation, the 7th day was highlighted to be the dedicated day of rest.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Showing gratitude in even the smallest things, can help put our mind in a positive state, which will guarantee us quality rest.

The number of hours of sleep generally needed varies with circumstances The average is seven to nine.

In general, one should sleep when sleepy and not try to sleep more. Growing children require more sleep than grown-ups.

Give yourself proper time to sleep. They who sleep give nature time to build up and repair the weary waste of the organs.

Two hours good sleep before 12 o’clock is worth more than four hours after 12 o’clock.

Lack of proper rest leads to irritability, reduced creativity, concentration and efficiency. Lack of rest impairs judgement.

Losing as little as three hours of sleep in a single night can cut the effectiveness of your immune system in half.

Sugar is not good for the stomach. It causes fermentation, and this clouds the brain and brings peevishness into the disposition.

These are some conditions that can enhance good rest and sleeping conditions;

  • Avoid the use of alcohol or sleeping pills, if you feel the need of a physical sedative, try a neutral bath, hot-footbath or warm bath.
  • Avoid caffeine and nicotine which are central nervous system stimulants.
  • Create as restful an environment as possible to sleep in; a well-ventilated room, dark and quiet is preferable.
  • Avoid heavy meals just before going to bed; they are usually the cause of unnatural snoring and nightmares.
  • Ensure a proper diet composed mainly of plants. Light to moderate exercise is also helpful for improving sleep quality.

Spiritual rests; as physical rest is essential to a healthy lifestyle.

Spiritual rest is necessary for the general wellness of the spirit, soul and body. The Sabbath is an institution for man’s benefit to this regard. By observing its statutes; we allow the blessings of the Creator for that day to become our portion. The Sabbath symbolizes The Creator’s finished work of our salvation from sin and guilt, it is a period where heaven condescends to touch and bless the souls of men. Spiritual rest can only be fully appreciated when we obediently keep The Creator’s given day of rest sacred & holy.
